4 Important Tips to Help Your Dog Sleep Through The Night

We love our dogs, but that does not mean that we love waking up throughout the night to deal with their antics. We definitely do not enjoy being forced out of bed feeling tired. Hence, it is important to solve any issues that may be causing your dog’s sleepless nights.

We are strong believers of letting our dogs sleep with us (Check out 3 Reasons You Should Let Your Dog Sleep with You). So, here are some tips on how you can make your nights with your furkids a restful and relaxing one!

01.They need their potty break

Puppies can hold their bladder for about one hour for every month of age. For example, a 3-month-old puppy can hold for 3 hours before the need to go potty again. With consistent house training, they are able to hold longer. Thus it is crucial to set up a pee routine before bedtime, you’ll have more rest before the next potty.

02. Keep evening and bedtime calm

Avoid intense and exciting games, such as tug of war, or activities that will get your puppy or dog too excited, at least an hour or two before bedtime to prevent overstimulating him/her.

03. Give your dog plenty of exercise during the day

Fill their day with fun activities and exercises, and they are more likely to sleep through the night. A long walk just a few hours before bedtime helps to ensure a good night’s sleep not only for you, but for your dog as well.

04. Establish bedtime routine and ensure comfy sleep area

From day one, Bacon and Brie were taught not to play on the bed or in the bedroom. All games and fun activities are either outdoors or in the living room. It really helps your dog differentiate his/her play area and rest area. And trust us, it works! Brie, being our second dog, has yet to interrupt our sleep (thankfully), and once she enters the bedroom, she simply snoozes. Of course, it will help a great deal if you spend a bit effort to make their sleep area comfy and soothing.
